Cardiac catheterization (heart cath) is the insertion of a catheter into a heart chamber or blood vessel of the heart.[1] In the prehospital setting, paramedics will transport Acute ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients to facilities with an available cardiac catheterization lab. Prehospital activation of the cath lab and catheterization team varies from system to system.
