What is a wiki?

A wiki website is a site that allows users to edit or create pages. These pages are linked together internally and the wiki is constantly growing and changing through community involvement. Nobody reviews the content to certify that it is accurate. It is thought that the community will self-correct any false information, and this has generally shown to be true with wiki websites.

Semantic Wiki

EMS Wiki is a semantic wiki. This means it extends the capability of a regular wiki so that it has an underlying structure or model of knowledge. Using this structure, the content is more meaningful because data can be captured, categorized, queried, related and applied.

Why use a Wiki to Document EMS Systems?

EMS is diverse and it's structure can vary significantly from system to system. Formal studies of EMS systems have been difficult and have left many questions about the structure and effectiveness of EMS. These difficulties can be related to studies of any system with a high number of variables and inconsistencies.

Web 2.0 tools have introduced new ways to collaboratively document complicated systems such as EMS. By allowing open contribution, responders who visit this site can provide unique perspective without being limited to restrictive and incomplete research structures. With this open-minded, participatory project, documentation of EMS systems will show the collective perspective of responders in a Wisdom of the Crowd type project.

Will the Information be Accurate?

Information will NOT ALWAYS be accurate, but wiki research projects have shown to be self-corrective as the number of contributors increases, and as people continuously edit information.
